Head Injury

Personal Injury: Head Injury

Closed head injury, traumatic brain injury (TBI), minor head trauma, post concussive syndrome, cerebral hematoma, cerebral contusion, central nervous system injuries are all terms describing similar or potentially the same condition, depending how the terms are used. The severity of the brain injury is often labeled mild, moderate or severe brain injury or head injury. Obviously someone can suffer an open brain injury where the skull is fractured open. However, even without impact to the head and without surface bruising someone can suffer traumatic brain injury. For example, with a whiplash-type mechanism the brain slams against the inside of the skull and bruises, and/or a twisting mechanism distorts the shape of the brain and tears some of the neurons, causing diffuse axonal injury.

The person with a traumatic brain injury looks fine. However, most often the person is deeply frustrated with memory loss, cognitive dysfunction, deficits in attention and concentration, increased anxiety, behavioral or emotional disorders, and lack of understanding from those around them. Sometimes the symptoms themselves are difficult to describe or categorize. Unfortunately, the injury often goes undiagnosed. Medical providers often do not make a referral or do not make a referral to the appropriate specialist, a neurophysiologist for sophisticated neurodiagnostic testing. Even typical physical symptoms are ignored or not connected to the injury.

We recognize that even a minor loss of functional capacity can affect a person's educational development or performance in the workplace. We understand that minor changes in personality or emotional stability affect your relationship with family and friends.

If another person is at fault for causing your loss you should be fully and fairly compensated. Your attorney should understand your condition and know how to articulate it. We would be glad to help you. Contact us immediately.

At the Law Office of Brian T. Stern, we handle all types of head injury cases and see many different types of situations. Some injuries have long-term effects that will forever change the life of the injured party. Put our experience to work for you and contact us today for your free initial consultation.
